New Announcement: Season's Greetings from TutorABC
-
Yeah, it's going to be rough for some.
The company still has some time to rethink this, so let's wait and see what happens after the reps go to their meeting.
-
@Robert-296 Agreed.
-
In my country, you finish your work BEFORE you go on holiday, not after, even if you have to put in some extra time.
-
The 15th and 16th of February are national holidays in Serbia. Banks are not working. The fact that the 17th and 18th are regular weekend days and banks will not be open only compounds the issue. So I will receive my salary on the 19th of February. That is a very big problem for me because my wife is pregnant, and we are expecting a baby at the beginning of February. Please reconsider this decision.
-
@Dusan Sorry to hear about this. We have raised these holiday dates in Serbia in a meeting today.
We'll get back to everyone when we hear back (likely to be tomorrow now).

@Royce-0 I just can't imagine the thinking here? It's honestly insane to me. As working professionals do they not think "people have bills"? The solution of "save money from the month before" is insulting as it is short sighted. It's Christmas, the biggest most expensive season in the west. People take time off here the most. We're expected to work hard and cover shifts around their big holidays, but now we're expected to save a huge amount of our previous money to cover bills from the next month because they want to pay us later.
I'm hacked off.

@Sean-125
Some teachers are going to have to either get a loan or work more during the holidays this month. Additionally, teachers who celebrate Lunar New Year will also be too short on money to celebrate it when it comes on February 10th.Matthew mentioned above that there will likely be an update on this tomorrow, so again, I am hoping for good news.
-
@Royce-0 Im just venting, but I really need consistent payment times. Out by a day or two due to weekends I can cope with. 5 days is entirely too long. Bounced direct debits cost money. Money I cannot afford because I wont have been paid.
-
@Sean-125 Yeah, I am nervous about it.
-
@Royce-0 Well I'm nervous +1. So I win.

@Teachers
Dear All,
We have tried our best to find a solution for the February payment and included everyone involved, but unfortunately, because of the system, all the work that needs to be done, and holidays cannot be done earlier.
- The system finishes everything on the 1st at 23:59 Taipei time;
- Payroll team prepares everything from 2nd to the 5th(overtime and weekend work included) and send relevant data to the Finance Department;
- The Finance Department checks everything, writes transaction details for all teachers(it seems it is not automatic), and does bank transfers, and provides everything for banks on the 7th.
- Banks in Taiwan will stop working on the 7th at 15:00 Taipei time and neither the Payroll Department nor the Finance Department knows if the banks will have enough time to process everything. Their opinion is that it won't be processed before the 15th.
That's all the information we got from our DoS, and it seems that we have no other option but to wait and see.
The TPR team has done everything we could to find a resolution, with numerous suggestions, without any success in the end.
Best Regards to all,
The TPR team

@Marko-I I cannot remember, did this happen last year and the year before? And if it didn't, why is this year different from them?
-
@Marko-I thanks for trying your best for everyone guys.
-
@Sean-125 I'm pretty sure it didnt happen last year.
-
@Sean-125 New Years is at a different time every year. It just happens to fall on our exact pay day this year, making it impossible to do any banking. That being said, the timing of New Years this year didn't come as a surprise, so I would have liked to see more notice. Teachers only had 3 weeks to prepare an extra week's income, during a holiday month.
I am fine with the odd unavoidable late payment, but you need to give teachers a couple months to save money. I think that is a fair request.
-
@Marko-I Thanks for doing everything you could. Is it my understanding that it might still be processed on the 7th, but they just aren't sure of it? Either way, thanks TPR team.

I would say the chances of that are extremely slim and no one should bet on that. If it happens it will be a wonderful surprise, but better to prepare for the worst-case scenario.

@Sean-125 As @Royce-0 said, Chinese New Year falls on a different date and day every year. I am pretty sure that in the past we haven't had such issues, and when I looked at the calendar for the past years, the CNY was way away from the 10th of the month.
I do agree that this should have been handled sooner, and when looking at the dates for coming years, 2027 also may have a similar potential issue, but in the end, it all depends on when the Taiwanese government will declare non-working days for the bank(the biggest issue in my book).
Regarding that banks may process payment on the 7th, I wouldn't dare to give any false hopes, but I'll be happy if any of us gets it on that date. Generally, I think it is a long shot.
We did try everything in our power for this situation, and we will try and make sure to avoid it in the future.
-
I think it has happened maybe once in the last 10 years (something like that).
This will affect all staff at ABC alike and did in the past too. It appears it is something they are more used to than us.
