Summer Vacation 2024 Update

  • Is it not possible to have more 30-minute slots instead of the 1-hour slots?

  • Me too - really unhappy with this. I tried to give my regular students as much notice as possible by setting my schedule up for July and August so they could book way ahead. This flies in the face of the policy they are proclaiming to implement, namely that they are trying to encourage regular lesson slots and regular students. There is no way I can now change my time table. Too late I'm afraid.

  • Apologies if I'm asking a stupid question and it has been said but I wasn't able to change my MPT hours in time for July due to seeing the email too late. So... the algorithm has booked me my classes as usual but looking at my usual schedule I now don't do my full 5 hours MPT in the dark green prime time slots anymore. I am part time here. Do I need to add extra slots in July manually to fulfill the new changed peak hour requirement or can I leave it is as? That would mean me adding time to my working week here in July.....so it would require a bit of thought on my part as I have another job too.
I can obviously change my MPT in time for August as needed.
Thanks for the advice. I just want to make sure I'm fulfilling my role properly. :)

@Marko-I @Matthew-A This is a really good point! I just checked, and now I miss the 5 MPT hours too. I used to do some every day, but now the slots are all gone in the evenings. Even weekends are slim pickings if you don't work in the morning.

    Hello,

I have a problem of adding more lessons (not the fixed ones), because it states when I want to add a class it says: 'The lesson is booked by SS team.'

    What does that mean?

    Thank you,
    Irina K

@Sara-229 That's a good question! I had to change my MPT hours to meet the new peak hours for the summer but by that time I already had a few classes scheduled for July. As a result, I have to teach extra classes as I don't want to cancel the ones already scheduled.

@Sara-229 If you have a fixed schedule already approved (MPT hours) you are fine. Add any extra hours as you wish - no actual requirement for you to do so.

    @Irina-48 I'll DM you.

@Stewart-5 When I look, some afternoon and evening hours are still there.

Mine are all just outside of those hours! I saw your previous message, so I should be OK for the contribution/completion bonuses still? Thank you.

  • @Matthew-A Thank you Matthew. Appreciate the clarification 👍

@Stewart-5 Yes, all ok cos you have an existing MPT schedule.

  • Ok - I'm trying to get my head around all of this (and probably failing). It's a mess! I sent my primetime hours in before the notification about the updated times for summer. However, when the schedule changed, I saw that I only had three hours that aligned with the PT hours (I am +8GMT here so for me, I can only align with the two hour Taiwan evening PT slots - midday here and I can only do three days a week due to other commitments).

I wrote to the help desk as @Marko-I suggested and offered an update (that used half hour slots) but would give me the required 5 hours PT needed since the update). Their response was confusing and vague stating that I had until the 29th to submit a change and that if I updated anything now, it would take place with immediate effect (????????? whatever that implies)....

Now I see that all the slots are booked so adding the new time slots I suggested in my email would result in hours that I cannot sustain. I have FM and anything over 2 hours causes extreme fatigue as it's currently 33 degrees inside my home).

What a mess! I just don't know what to do. I really don't want to be cancelling my regular student's slots that they have already booked for July.

Any advice? Happy to receive a private message.

    @ Everyone
In summary, you don't need to change any MPT hours unless you truly want to.

Summer holidays mean more teachers are needed in the mornings, that is why we got this message.

You can just manually add any extra hours that the company is asking you consider teaching, no need to actually change your whole MPT schedule.

If you'd rather teach mornings, than say your current schedule of evenings, then yes it would be a good idea to change your MPT for these months rather than have to cancel your existing evening hours schedule each week.

@Patrick-115 Write to the comm center again and ask them to ignore the changes and you will add any additional hours manually. Let us know if you have any issues, we'll help.

  • @Matthew-A Thank you Matthew. I was getting very stressed because it isn't in my nature to cancel or let students down unnecessarily and it felt like we were being asked to fit a round peg into a square hole.

So would you just confirm that if my old schedule leaves just 3 hours in the new PT slots (dark green) even though it was 5 hours in the old PT schedule, I will still get bonuses etc. and not be breaking the contract (even though technically the contact will have expired)?

  • @Matthew-A my understanding is not just mpt hours count towards the bonus, but also the amount of classes you teach, am I right?

  • Teacher Public Representative

@Patrick-115 Which 5 hours (now 3) did you have on your MPT schedule?

  • Don't change your MPT schedule if you want to appear consistent to the algorithm.

  • @Matthew-A. Well it became really complicated because I always started on one of the 1/2 hr sessions before but that option appears to have been taken away which has really stuffed my schedule.

This was my PT slots that I submitted on the 15th June for July and August requesting a change BEFORE the summer schedule appeared. I also filled in as many old regular slots as I could to try and accommodate most regulars over the summer break. It seems teachers are not allowed to take breaks ;-) sigh

Application details: Effective date is 2024/07/01 00:00:00 (GMT+8)

    New schedule(GMT+8):
    Wednesday: 19:30, 20:00, 20:30, 21:00
    Thursday: 19:30, 20:00, 20:30, 21:00
    Friday: 19:30, 20:00, 20:30

I've asked COMMS to ignore my last request to add hours in order to accommodate the need for 5 new PT hours on your advice.
