Announcement: Cancelation Policy Update July 2023
-
Despite what we've been repeatedly told, whenever I cancel GREEN DOTS and well in advance (even though we can do it 4 hrs prior, technically), I do still get punished by having yellow classes removed. This happened again yesterday...lost 2 yellow classes for tomorrow. Have I misunderstood the policy? Has anyone else noticed this, too?
-
@Lisa-276 I'm doing the same and I don't feel like you do. I canceled 2 green slots this morning, 5-6 hours before, during my night time. The rest of the classes stayed, maybe some were replaced. Lots of my classes were canceled this week, but as it is the New Year's weekend celebration coming, I find it expected to have a bit more cancelations.
-
@Marko-I The reason I'm skeptical is that it happens every time I cancel green dots. A future yellow class disappears.
-
@Marko-I @Lisa-276 I have been losing sessions this week, some were replaced, and some were not.
2 sessions were canceled today and then I canceled those booked slots bcs I am sick.
So, it has nothing to do with canceling green dots.
-
@Lisa-276 I am sorry that you feel that way, but I'm positive it had nothing to do with repercussions because of canceling green dots.
-
I truly believe that if we cancel green slots according to the policy it has no effect at all on the algorithm. At the moment there are so many schedule changes on the students side due to school events and family gatherings etc. I just think it is the luck of the day to be honest.

Correlation ≠ Causation
-
@Marko-I just to clarify, you're not unticking extra slots, you're submitting an actual urgent cancellation? Just checking, I decided to not so this as too scared but maybe will try again hahah.
-
@Alistair This morning at 3 am my time, I saw that the morning hours were removed and left only green dots(8 am my time - 3 pm Taipei time) so I canceled them from my phone using the cancelation system. We cannot untick hours under 24 hours. Evidence below.
-
@Marko-I Oh seems brave but I believe you!
-
@Alistair As you can see, I also didn't want to cancel for NY as well too early, and many slots were filled, but I canceled them 72 hours and more ahead, and everything is fine from January 3rd forward.
I had to try it sometime and see what would happen. Result below.
-
I agree with Marko. I very frequently cancel unscheduled slots, and have not noticed any changes to my schedule.
-
I'm really heartened to hear everyone's confidence in the system. Going forward, I'll try to document the instances, but I'll hope that you all are right. Thanks for your input.
-
@Lisa-276 I too have noticed a change as you have but I think in my case, it's because I've gone over that 6% rule. I can't be bothered to do the maths but it maybe that your cancellation for that month is higher than 6% of your classes. You could work out if that's the case and that might answer your question.
@Stewart-5 mentioned how to work this out:
Divide the number of classes you wish to cancel by the number of classes you have completed within the last 14 days. Multiply that number by 100 to see the percentage.
-
@Mina-0 Thanks for this reminder. But ugh, I hate math. That already sounds confusing. I'm also confused that cancelling green dots would factor in this 6% equation?
-
@Lisa-276 if you are teaching back to back 25 min classes, sometimes it is inevitable you forget to open that second tab
-
@Lisa-276 I think it does include green dots cancellations. It'd be good to have that confirmed by one of the TPRs.
-
I have noticed a similar pattern to what @Alistair is fearful about cancelling. When I cancel green slots within 72 hours or even urgent green slots, I get more 45-minute or cram classes.
-
@Lisa-276 I think the green dots are dependent on 'how' they are cancelled. If they were manually added and you can just 'untick' them, they don't count. But if you actually have to make a cancellation, then they do. That's how I interpreted it.
-
@Alia-9 That is my thoughts so I just don't it!
