Hi everyone, I really need your advice and support. 🙏

  • I’m reaching out here because I’m currently facing a very difficult situation, and I know many of you have more experience or may have been through something similar.

I’ve just had my 6th absence, and as you know, that’s the maximum allowed under company policy before potential termination. I’m honestly very worried about losing my job. My most recent absence happened due to a technical issue—my laptop kept freezing unexpectedly right before class, and I couldn’t fix it in time. After hours of frustration and troubleshooting, I found out it was a new charger I had just bought that was causing the issue. I’ve since replaced it and taken steps to avoid anything like this happening again.

I love working here and truly don’t want to lose this opportunity. I’ve already written a detailed message to the company explaining the situation and asking for a second chance, but I don’t know what else I can do to help protect my position.

If any of you have been through something similar, or know of any steps I can take (e.g., appeal process, probation options, speaking to a specific department), please let me know. I’d deeply appreciate any advice, support, or encouragement.

Thank you so much for reading this. It means a lot.

  • TPRs

Teachers may appeal their termination, and every case is reviewed by our management team. That said, I want to be transparent: in situations involving multiple no-shows, especially 6 within six months, it’s highly unlikely that an appeal will result in reinstatement.

Reliability and consistency are critical to our standards, particularly now, as management is responding to an increase in student complaints, contract cancellations, and the loss of some key clients (businesses and schools). These concerns make it even more important that all teachers demonstrate professionalism and accountability.

  • thank you, if i appeal and they do not approve, will that be the end for me.

  • I'm so sorry to hear that, but I guess there is nothing to be done here.

All the best in your future undertakings.

  • @Chien-Hao I'm truly baffled how this is even possible? Unless you're in an area with bad internet, as many SAs are unfortunately. I keep a generator at my desk and have unlimited data on my phone in case of backups. I'll be honest, though, I've never had to use it!

  • @Nsumbu I'm very sorry to hear this. Did you not have any free passes?

  • @Chien-Hao I have not accumulated 6 absences in under three months though.

  • @Dikeledi-3 not currently, no

  • @Nsumbu Oh, sorry about that, I thought you joined in March this year, but it's actually last year. However, you do have accumulated at least 6 absences (plus free passes) in the past six months.

Anyway, all the best to you.

  • @Nsumbu Hello and I'm sorry this is happening to you, it is very frustrating. I see that you have taken the right steps to fix the issue, you have a new computer charger now. If your absences were valid, then there is nothing much you can do, I honestly wouldn't waste time appealing because I know what the answer would be. But what I would do is to continue teaching, get a hotspot, a generator (I know it's expensive) or another laptop just in case the battery dies. We work remotely, so having a back up is truly important. I hope this helps.
