Completely new

  • Hi everyone. I am completely new, and I should start teaching on Friday. However, I still have a lot of questions, and I can't seem to get any sort of response. I wrote to the recruitment and @helpme email, but there has been no response for days. Basically, the last person I talked to was my interviewer.
Perhaps you guys can help me.
If we all start with 45-minute adult classes, when do they start adding other types of lessons (I completed CUP, IELTS, and TOEFL training)?
    Are there 25-minute adult classes?
Is it possible to avoid teaching levels 1-4 altogether or at least 1-2?
Thank you very much from a very confused teacher. :)

I'll keep it short, because I'm about to enter a class. To the very best of my knowledge:
1 This is at the discretion of the company, and many tags are given by invitation only.

    2 No

    3 No

There's more to be said regarding what happens as you develop followers, and I'm sure others will chime in.

  • @Robert-296 Thank you Robert!

    That's too short! 🤣

  • Welcome!

Over time, you’ll be given other types of classes. However, I highly recommend completing as many trainings as possible so that you’re qualified for a wider variety of classes. The more classes you’re qualified to teach, the more opportunities you’ll have to be booked.

No, there aren’t any 25-minute adult classes, and as far as I’m aware, you cannot opt out of certain levels. I know classes with low-level students might seem daunting at first, but they’re really not. Once you’ve done a few, you’ll get the hang of it. And again—the more classes you’re qualified and trained for, the better your schedule will be (considering other factors like ratings, attendance, etc.).

I also recommend checking out the FAQ section of the forum, as many important topics are covered there.

  • @Marijana-61 Hi (or Ćao :) ) Marijana,

As mentioned earlier, many of the lesson types are by invitation only. I’ve had a few random 25-minute lessons with adults in the past, but that was quite a while ago—I haven’t heard of anyone getting those recently.

You can’t really avoid teaching lower-level students, since sessions are assigned to you automatically. It’s just part of the job.

I’d recommend looking into teaching kids—it can really help fill up your schedule.

If you have any other questions, feel free to DM me!

  • @Nemanja-0 You were just a bit faster :D

  • @Marijana-61 Welcome!

If you are newly hired, the company most likely want or expect you to support low-level students, so, no, you cannot choose not to teach them. That being said, you can technically cancel courses that you don't want to teach, provided that doing so would not affect your cancellation rate or other scheduling factors. Please refer to this flow chart that I made for specifics:

Additionally, since you just started teaching here, you'll have to wait for a while, like some sort of probation period, before you would be able to teach more tags, at least this was what one of my mentors told me in our previous meeting.

  • I wanna echo what Eva said - if you have any questions, don't hesitate to DM me as well.
