Checking In About a Switched Class
-
I had two classes scheduled today—one at 6:30 p.m. and the other at 7:00 p.m. I finished the first class three minutes late. As I was about to start the second class (scheduled for 7:00 p.m.), I noticed that it had already been marked as “Switched” in red, with the reason listed as “absence” at 6:59 p.m.
Shortly afterward, I received a message asking if I could teach the class at 10:30 p.m., and I said yes.
I just wanted to check—will this be recorded in any way? Also, I understand that we’re required to join the class three minutes early. If we don’t, could that result in the class being switched or cancelled?
-
@YiChien Are you asking if the absence still stands even if you click' yes I can teach the classes later on?' If I understand correctly then sadly, yes you will still have an absence on your record. If you click your absences tab it shows more or less straight away on there. Hope this helps Jackie.
-
@YiChien you will have an absence which you can appeal if you have a Free Pass. If you click "yes" your lessons will remain but if not they remove all classes for 24h. It looks like you will just have an absence.
-
Thanks. I am a new teacher here. I don't know if I have free pass.
-
Thanks! Just a quick question: I don’t have a free pass since I’m new here. What are the consequences of an absence—could it lead to termination? Thanks
-
@YiChien I recommend you read through your contract (agreement) and you will find many answers to these questions in there.
-
@YiChien No don't worry too much. One absence will not mean you will be terminated just think to the future now and try not to get anymore. Also what Lisa said is true, check your contract to see how many absences you are allowed before anything like that happens.
-
Thanks. just finished a class-going to check the contract.

@YiChien One important tip that often gets overlooked: join your next session while you're still in the current one. I usually log in about 10 minutes early to the next session — this helps avoid being switched out or marked absent.
-
@Eva-G it's why God invented browser tabs!!!
@YiChien definitely do as Eva has suggested, as soon as you see that timer hit the 20th/40th minute, switch to the session page and launched the class.

And when you open your next class while still in the current one make sure to stay on that tab long enough to be sure there isn't a pop-up message that prevents the classroom page from loading. Also to make sure that you haven't accidentally hit the "View Material & Student Info" button instead of the "Start" button. That's happened to many of us a time or two in our haste to get back to our current class.
-
@YiChien According to our SA, accumulating 6 absences in a period of 6 months will result in termination
-
@Chien-Hao Yes, right. Thank you, Chien. :) I checked it last night. Six absences lead to termination.
-
Thank you. That is clever. :)

Thank you, Melissa!!!! I found it very helpful!

One more question—will this record stay with us forever? Thanks.
-
@YiChien An absence disappears after six months from the date it was recorded. In addition, absences could affect your schedules or, if they are happening too often, put you in a shadow ban from your clients.
-
@Chien-Hao Thank you!

@YiChien always remember to open a second tab and check in to your next lesson, around 10 mins before
