Hello Everyone. I am a new teacher and maybe this space is not the most appropriate to ask a question, BUT could anyone advise please, when should I click the 'start session' button to start the class? I clicked in today 2 minutes prior my first class and it was saying 'the link has expired' and now I have got an absence. Please, help guys! Also, another question about the upcoming classes...I don't have any classes shown now as upcoming for today, do I still need to stay logged in into the system or it's just the waste of time? Many thanks for your help.

This makes the period of time a bit clearer in which it is OK to cancel.
However, I still can't grok the reason why the system feels it's more important to 'punish' the teacher for a cancellation than it is to satisfy a customer who wants that particular teacher. It just doesn't make any sense to me from a customer perspective.
I have suggested that customer service reps be given the authority to override the system's 'banning' of a teacher if the customer calls and specifically requests the provider. If the customer goes to that length to make the request, I see no reason not to honor it. My suggestion has received no response.
Additionally, there is no indication here on what's being done to manage the customer service agents and what they are saying to the customers regarding the teachers' unavailability. Telling students or parents that the teacher is not available requires a reason, and they have had numerous explanations like 'teacher is punished', 'teacher is on vacation', or 'teacher took time off'. When none of these reasons are true, what will the students and parents be told, if they call and specifically request the teacher?
Please remember that the reason offered reflects on the teacher's character and record, so this is important to us.
It's mind-boggling.

@Daria-20 I always enter the session 7-5-minutes before it begins. It will give you absences if you sign in 2-minutes before the class. Just enter early, leave your camera and mic off until you are ready to begin. It's not worth the risk of playing it too close to the start time. Welcome!
-
@Daria-20 Classes can schedule up to an hour before they start. So if your last green dot ( unscheduled, but booked, class) of the day is at 12:30pm, don't leave your house until you have checked the session page at 11:31pm to see if they haven't scheduled you anything for the 12:30pm slot.

@ROYCE 0 Thank you so much for your help and advise! This is so helpful! Nice to meet you too. Another silly question..sorry..I've got everything in Chinese language on the community page, do I change the settings in the Google Chrome myself so I can have it all in English? Just wondering if there is a magic button on the screen somewhere which I can't see ?? :) THANK YOU!
-
@Daria-20 click on your name. Then click on the blue circle with 3 vertical dots. Click on settings. Scroll down to language. Choose English. The adventures of tutyabc.
-
@Daria-20 I'll send you a private message after my class. Or one of the TPRs.

Hi @Daria-20 I've changed it to English for you.

@Daria-20 For JR classes (25 min) you must log in AT LEAST 3 min before the class starts. You can log in up to 10 min before. For 45 min classes, you must log in at latest 5 min before class and up to 10 min before.
-
@Lisa-276 That's a bit confusing, you must log in 3 minutes before but start the class at the scheduled time.
-
@Lisa-276 Is that true for 45-minute classes? I swear I have signed in to them even at the 27-minute mark before and was not switched and everything went smoothly. I wouldn’t recommend doing that, but I don’t think the system will give you any penalties if you sign in at the 26-minute mark. There is some leeway there.
-
@Stephen-W RIght you are. Editing it now.
-
@Royce-0 Whoa, i had no idea you could do that. Nor would I ever risk it. Just curious why in the world you would ever log into a class at the 26 min mark???

Hello, Daria! Welcome to the teacher community! Just a question out of curiosity, have you ever received/read training about how the system works as a new tutor?

I think there was some misinformation at some point about this.
Just to clarify, all classes open 10 minutes before the start time. We need to be in the classroom at least 3 minutes before for all classes.
(This updated wording will be in the new contract and the only exemption to this is for demos where it is 2 minutes before the start time)

Oh, there's actually no 'misinformation' at all. It states this quite clearly in our contracts, although I don't believe it's ever been strictly enforced.
3.4 PROVIDER shall adhere to login protocols and is on Telegram as well as enter the session room corresponding with his/her schedule a minimum of five (5) minutes (for Regular Session, Demo Session and Session more than 25 minutes long) / three (3) minutes (for 25-minute Session and Session less than 25 minutes long) prior to the session start time. Failure to comply with login protocols may result in a record of Absence. TutorABC has the right to cancel the Session if PROVIDER fails to log in on time and PROVIDER will not be paid for that Session. PROVIDER may be blocked from teaching if being considered tardy or Absent, and all Sessions would be removed or cancelled within 24 hours after Absence.
-
@Robert-296 Yes, it is what was in the contract, and it will be updated as it was incorrect. As you said, no one has ever been marked absent for not being in a class 5 minutes before, especially demos - where the rule was 1 minute which has now been updated to 2 minutes.
-
@Matthew-Addyman
Agree, and good riddance to it being in the contract. I'm always in a panic on the rare occasions I've not logged in before the 5 minutes, never knowing if it's going to be suddenly enforced.
