Announcement: Cancelation Policy Update July 2023

@Stephen-W RIght you are. Editing it now.
-
@Royce-0 Whoa, i had no idea you could do that. Nor would I ever risk it. Just curious why in the world you would ever log into a class at the 26 min mark???

when should I click the 'start session' button to start the class? I clicked in today 2 minutes prior my first class and it was saying 'the link has expired' and now I have got an absence.
Hello, Daria! Welcome to the teacher community! Just a question out of curiosity, have you ever received/read training about how the system works as a new tutor?

@Lisa-276 在 Announcement: Cancelation Policy Update July 2023 中說:
@Daria-20 For JR classes (25 min) you must log in AT LEAST 3 min before the class starts. You can log in up to 10 min before. For 45 min classes, you must log in at latest 5 min before class and up to 10 min before.
I think there was some misinformation at some point about this.
Just to clarify, all classes open 10 minutes before the start time. We need to be in the classroom at least 3 minutes before for all classes.
(This updated wording will be in the new contract and the only exemption to this is for demos where it is 2 minutes before the start time)

Oh, there's actually no 'misinformation' at all. It states this quite clearly in our contracts, although I don't believe it's ever been strictly enforced.
3.4 PROVIDER shall adhere to login protocols and is on Telegram as well as enter the session room corresponding with his/her schedule a minimum of five (5) minutes (for Regular Session, Demo Session and Session more than 25 minutes long) / three (3) minutes (for 25-minute Session and Session less than 25 minutes long) prior to the session start time. Failure to comply with login protocols may result in a record of Absence. TutorABC has the right to cancel the Session if PROVIDER fails to log in on time and PROVIDER will not be paid for that Session. PROVIDER may be blocked from teaching if being considered tardy or Absent, and all Sessions would be removed or cancelled within 24 hours after Absence.
-
@Robert-296 Yes, it is what was in the contract, and it will be updated as it was incorrect. As you said, no one has ever been marked absent for not being in a class 5 minutes before, especially demos - where the rule was 1 minute which has now been updated to 2 minutes.
-
@Matthew-Addyman
Agree, and good riddance to it being in the contract. I'm always in a panic on the rare occasions I've not logged in before the 5 minutes, never knowing if it's going to be suddenly enforced.
-
@Robert-296 Yeah, I remember seeing this in our contracts - glad to hear it's being updated!
-
@Matthew-Addyman Thank you so much!
-
@Royce-0 Thank you!
-
@Royce-0 Got it! Thank you.
-
@Lisa-276 Got it! A massive thank you.
-
@Lisa-276 I don’t often sign in at :26, but I never saw an issue with it if I did. I knew the official official rules were that it has to be 3-minutes before the class. So I always saw the :27 minute as the final cut off.
-
@Galia-1 This is absolutely a reasonable and good question! I totally agree it was my fault for not starting the session 3 minutes prior the beginning of the class as it says in the training/tutor contract. I just got from holiday, straight back to a new job, and for some reason (don't ask me why, I know I already look silly here) I thought that I can only start the class at the fixed time. The platform where I worked before only allowed me to start the class at a fixed time. I also think because there was a gap between my initial training and starting the job, I got confused too. Anyway, I've learnt my lesson now.
-
@Matthew-Addyman Thank you for clarifying this.
-
I was trying to find a better place ( i.e. a more topic-related thread ) where I could ask this question, which doesn't relate to Cancelation policy at all, but I ended up coming back here. Sorry :) My question: Is there any way of accessing the materials of the lessons? Do we have a library or something like that where I could have a look on the teaching materials just to have an idea? Many thanks in advance.
-
@Daria-20 Nope. They are always a surprise, haha.
-
If you have been allocated a lesson 25 or 45 min regular lesson you can see the material immediately . Indeed as far as seven weeks ahead if you book your schedule that far ahead.
-
@Royce-0 I don't mean to belabor this, but I'm so confused. If you were unable to log into the class within 3 min of its start, wouldn't that mean you'd get switched? How would you even be able to log in after the class started, unless you were standby? Would you be willing to say?
-
@Lisa-276 It still lets you enter the session.
I don't recommend anyone RISK pushing it to the last minute, ever, not worth it, BUT the system isn't going to switch you until the 28-29th minute. It will let you enter the class up until the moment it switches you. I have experienced this during rare technical issues where I barely made it into the class on time...so...It will let you enter up until the last second.
