General Teacher Announcement June 21st
-
Dear Teachers,
We hope this email finds you well.
Thank you to everyone who has completed the latest CETF training and attended the TLT hosted by our mentors. We hope that you will find these useful for supporting student growth in the classroom.
We are writing to address an increase in issues related to attendance and professionalism in the classroom.
Late cancellations and no-shows
1. Over the last few months, we have seen a significant increase in no-shows and cancellations, often without clear and specific reasons provided.
2. This severely impacts students’ experiences and, not only results in refunds, but also hurts TutorABC’s image as a reliable education provider.
3. We are proud of being able to provide flexible scheduling for both teachers and students and we plan to keep this in place and take more proactive action with teachers taking advantage of this system.
4. As educational professionals, we do also expect teachers to manage their schedules effectively and fulfill their scheduling commitments.Looking ahead:
1. We will be monitoring attendance and cancellations more closely, so if a cancellation is necessary, please provide specific reasons for it, not unspecific reasons, such as "schedule conflict" or "unavailable".
2. As the TPRs have mentioned in the April Town-Hall, we are continuing to look at our cancellation policies to make sure that it is up to date and reflects our purpose of being a first-class education provider.Complaining to students and soliciting ratings
1. We have also had a few instances of teachers soliciting ratings and airing both personal grievances and professional grievances in the classroom.
2. Please remember that soliciting ratings from students is against the service agreement.Looking ahead:
1. Again, we ask that teachers remain professional and avoid expressing any level of frustration with internal matters to students.
2. We will happily hear out teacher concerns, but please make sure to use the appropriate channels. You can do so through the comm center or by emailing helpme@tutorabc.com.Child Safety
1. We prioritize every student’s wellbeing and want to ensure teachers are informed on how to handle concerns about their students, especially those on our platform.
2. We ask every teacher to please err on the side of caution and report any concerns to the child safeguarding lead regardless of how harmless they may seem. childsafeguardinglead@tutorabc.com
3. In order to continue teaching JR learners, we request that teachers please complete the survey below to check that they are up to date with child safety requirements. https://www.surveycake.com/s/LavkY
We know that on the whole, most of our teachers are committed to making sure their students get the best possible classes, and we thank you for this. We look forward to continuing working with you as we aim to provide a first-class education to all our students.
Kind regards,
TutorABC

@Heather-B
Could I ask if cancelling unscheduled slots at the last minute is ok? I tend to cancel slots that are unscheduled just before the 4 hour penalty kicks in.
-
Likewise.
Are we just talking about a rise in cancellations under 48-hours before a scheduled lesson? Or are we talking about cancellations as a whole?
I really appreciate the flexibility of the new cancellation system. Unless it’s an emergency, I will only ever cancel green dots or over 48-hours for my standbys.
-
@Stewart-5 Yeah my notes on those are almost always "Away from desk" or "empty slots".
-
@Sean-125 My notes for the green dots are always “green dot.” But I assume the issue isn’t related to cancelling unscheduled slots and more so related to cancelling on regulars.
-
@Stewart-5 Hey, yes that’s okay. This is more about cancellations of scheduled classes.
-
@Heather-B Cancellations under 48h or just in general?

Thank you :)
-
@Eva-G under 48h seems to be the main issue.
-
@Heather-B Thanks. :)
Sometimes things happen but they shouldn't happen often.
Last month was the worst for me, there were a lot of power and internet issues for no apparent reason. But I hope that's over now. 🤞
-
Whilst the notice is, of course, important to impart on teachers, I'm wondering whether the same applies to students who cancel at the last minute? Unless I am mistaken, there is no compensation for teachers if a scheduled session is cancelled at the last moment which has happened so many times to me (and thereby preventing me from using that lost time to earn a living otherwise). It just all seems so unbalanced and against the tutors all the time. Please correct me if I am wrong. (and may I just add that for the record, apart from one day of cancellations when I had food poisoning, I have never, in 6 months, cancelled any lessons - just saying...).
-
I have been working here since 2016 and I've never noticed any child safety problems.
-
Can I cancel scheduled sessions 3 or more days in advance?

Please highlight the importance of this part.
It was like reading the news (aha), reading the news (mhm), reading the...
BOOM!
" In order to continue teaching JR learners, we request " (my heart skips a beat as I click on the link)
It's not that hard, but some people might miss the post.
@Heather-B Are they going to deactivate the JR tags over this? 🤔

@Heather-B Are they going to deactivate the JR tags over this? 🤔I only just spotted it myself! And I read it hours ago......
I also found this little error:

it's almost as if teacher's a choosing not to teach some of the students? And then give no particular reason for it?
(of course I might be mistaken)
-
@Heather-B Is the answer sheet at the end of the survey given as reference? I only ask because I had the answers as listed, but wondered if somehow I had done something wrong.
-
@Marko-4 maybe it is a way to see if we actually DO read the announcements (cue the comments in 3 months time 'I didn't see an email/announcement about this')
-
I completed the survey for child safety requirements, but did not get all of the answers correct, though the majority. As @Filip-0 I too have never had to report or had an issue with Child Safety therefore I haven't really studied it in great depth, but have the common sense and knowledge to understand when something needs reporting. @Heather-B Will a lower than x % score count against us to continue to tutor Jr classes? I sped through this as I imagine others did too. I didn't have a lot of time, but as 95% of my classes are Jr I did not want the tag to be removed. Further no deadline was set for the completion of the survey.
-
@Karl-20 I think many might miss this thread, so hopefully it gets added to our tasks on the main page, along with a deadline. Maybe it already has been? I just teach adults, so it might just not be on mine.
And on that point, do those of us that only teach adults need to do this Surveycake?
-
@Karl-20 I think I forgot to check one thing on the last question. 🤦
